He usually hired a professional driver to drive his race car, but at the "Daytona Speed Weeks" in 1957, which is two weeks of various kinds of racing, he drove this car to a one-way record on the "flying mile" on Daytona Beach, FL to a record speed of 141.2 mph! This was the fastest any American car had run this course ever to this date. It also compete on the oval track at Daytona. There is an article on this car in the 1957 May issue of Hot Rod magazine. |
